Sadly, we live in an era where birth has become increasingly medicalised. Over the years, I have witnessed the consequences of medicalised birth on both mothers and babies: from anxiety to post-natal depression, PTSD to severe birth trauma.
The NHS tries its best to care for mothers whose birth was not the experience they had wished for but too many continue to suffer in silence.
While mothers might be referred to therapy or debrief, very little is done for the babies who were also hurt or traumatised in the process: instrumental births(ventouse or forceps), neonatal admission and its batterry of tests can all have an effect on babies' behaviour and well-being.
My own experience as a migraine sufferer has led me to seek other forms of therapies such as Reiki. I use the wonderful healing energy of Reiki in order to heal mothers and babies and help them deal with the sequelae left by the birthing process.
Reiki is a gentle, non invasive therapy that will relax and release negative energies and emotions. It can be used in conjunction with conventional therapies such as medication or counselling.
